The JVB group consists of the parent company AS Jotunheimen and Valdresruten Bilselskap which operates the Nor-Way Bus Express routes Valdresekspressen and Øst-Vestekspressen, a boat route with MB Bitihorn at Bygdin and 12 tracked vehicles between Tyin and Eidsbugarden. The subsidiary JVB Tur operates tour buses and bus trips, JVB Travel operates as a tour operator with a focus on mountain holidays, among other things. under the brand name Jotunheimen Travel. Fagernes Verkstedsenter is a complete car and heavy vehicle workshop, JVB Eiendom rents out real estate and Valdres Transport runs freight transport, mainly distribution in Valdres.

About the Vacancy

JVB operates the passenger boat MB Bitihorn at Bygdin in Jotunheimen. The boat is 65 feet long, has a Scania DI9 engine of 350hp, takes 98 passengers and sails two trips daily Bygdin-Eidsbugarden-Bygdin via Torfinnsbu in the period 24 June to 28 August. Four weeks in July, we also sail an early departure from Bygdin to Torfinnsbu with return. From 28 August until 11 September, the boat runs charter traffic Monday-Thursday and regular route Friday-Sunday. The boat sails a crew of two, captain and light sailor.

We are looking for one or two captains who can work for a period or be part of a rotation system in the period from approx. July 1 to mid-August. Captains who have the opportunity and can imagine working for several seasons are desirable, but not a requirement.

As captain of MB Bitihorn, you must ensure the safety of passengers and crew, maintain the vessel’s seaworthiness, navigate and steer the boat in a safe and good way, have daily inspection of the machine and other critical components on board, hold safety drills, assist the light sailor with ticketing and loading / unloading of luggage and bicycles if necessary. The captain shall ensure that the vessel is operated in accordance with the company’s safety management system.

Our crew is characterized as service-oriented with a large degree of responsibility for both passengers and equipment. The crew is cheerful, happy to talk to the passengers and knowledgeable about the boat and the geography we sail in.

Qualifications

• At least recreational skipper certificate D5L, but deck officer class 5 or higher is desirable

• Basic safety course for seafarers 50t or safety training for seafarers on smaller ships.

• Courses in passenger and crisis management.

• Valid health certificate.

  Personal characteristics

• You are outgoing, nice, service-minded and love working with tourists.

• Speaks fluent Norwegian and at least masters English.

• Good collaboration skills.

• Feel free to take the microphone and guides along the way

• The ability and interest to learn both about the boat and its operation, but also about the area and tourism in Jotunheimen and Valdres.

Guide for Jotunheimen Travel

Jotunheimen Travel offers nature experiences in and around Jotunheimen. In the summer, for example, there are walks in Jotunheimen and bike rides along Mjølkevegen. In the winter, we will eventually offer e.g. cross-country skiing trips and other winter experiences that attract guests from Norway and around the world.

We work mostly with individual guests and small groups and strive to deliver experiences at the highest level.
Many of our tours are self-guided tours, where our guests book accommodation, transport and luggage transport with us, but are otherwise independent on the tour.

But we also offer guided tours, since some guests do not feel safe enough to go on a tour even in Jotunheimen and want a guide who has local knowledge of nature, culture and history from our region.

After a long and thorough process, JVB proudly presents its new visual identity. The new visual identity is built on the entire history of JVB and will bring the company forward to become a key player for experiences in Valdres and Jotunheimen. 

New visual identity

With pride and joy, JVB today presents its new visual profile. It is not commonplace to change logos, colors and many other elements for a company with such long traditions.

The project with the new visual identity has been going on for over a year. There have been long and thorough working meetings about the company’s values ​​and visions, and how the company with its long history can develop into an important player also in the future, sustainable tourism. The result was a new logo, font and a number of graphic elements built on the group’s history. These will lead as a safe and modern guide, to and from “adventurous” experiences in Jotunheimen and Valdres.

We have lost all public school and local bus services, and the Korona pandemic has also made it extremely demanding to operate in commercial passenger transport “, says CEO Helge Kvame. “But, we have used the time well, and much thanks to a solid grant from Innovation Norway, I am today proud and happy that JVB is using a new visual identity. The new visual identity shows and clarifies that the company is developing towards a future tourism company, where the focus is on passenger transport and experience production ».

The design agency Krible in Lillehammer has developed the new visual identity. Project manager Caroline Bræin Klette states: “It was with a certain awe that we embarked on the process of giving JVB a new identity. The company’s long history has made JVB a very important player in the local community and in the region. On the company’s way forward, we wanted history to continue to have its place, albeit in interaction with the development the company is facing. JVB has given us a very free framework in the creative expression, and we have had many good discussions along the way. It takes courage to let go of the reins of a well-established and established brand, and let it have a new life. The new identity is a result of new and old, nature and transport and not least trips and experiences. It supports the company’s professionalism, and highlights JVB as a solid player in several areas. “

The new visual identity will be launched on June 8 on all digital platforms and will eventually also be visible on buses, trucks, boats, tracked vehicles and other physical elements in the JVB Group.
